For Mommies who are happily waiting for the moment child birth, don’t ever miss the regular pregnancy consultation during the pregnancy period. Periodic checks during pregnancy will always help Mommy to get complete pregnancy information about the fetus in the womb and at the same time maintain their health.

Routine antenatal care will also help Mommy to prevent and anticipate certain disorders during pregnancy by asking the appropriate measures by an obstetrician who will always help Mommy. It is important for Mommy to know the various stages of check-ups that will always help Mommy during pregnancy.

Stages of Pregnancy Check Up

Consultation during early stages of pregnancy is the initial consultation that Mommy should know. At that consultation the obstetrician or midwife will start the check up with calculating the conception date, and then followed by investigation regarding Mommy’s medical history which might give effect to the fetus in the womb. 

Follow-up examinations would include Mommy’s genetic conditions and history of allergies. During this initial examination, there is a possibility of having an ultrasound scan to determine the fetal size accurately. Periodic checks can also be carried out when Mommy reaches 16 weeks of pregnancy, including urine testing and blood tests. 

Mommy’s blood pressure will always be checked every time Mommy conducts routine checks. At the age of 18 up to 20 weeks of pregnancy, Mommy may have the anomaly scan which is optional. This examination is intended to determine the presence of congenital malformations in the fetus. Other tests will include the examination of the heart condition and vital organs of the fetus which will be conducted when the fetus has reached 20 up to 24 weeks.

Further Examination

During Week 28 of pregnancy, the obstetrician or midwife will conduct the second blood tests to check the antibodies in Mommy’s body and to see the iron level. Mommy will also be given a special injection called Anti-D to provide protection to the fetus from the possibility that Mommy's body will produce antibodies to attack the existence of the baby.

Diagnosis of Week 34 of pregnancy will include supplementation to increase iron levels in Mommy’s body to prepare childbirth. Then, at Week 36 of pregnancy, the obstetrician and midwives will start discussing the anomaly scan to see the position of the baby. Another procedure namely the External Cephalic Version may be conducted when the position of the baby will complicate the course of labor.
