Breast milk is the best food for newborns. After the baby is 6 months old, Mommy has actually been able to provide other varied foods.
However, there are many cases where Mommy cannot produce sufficient breast milk, even cannot produce milk at all, the baby will not get the best food. What’s the solution?
Start with Early Initiation of Breastfeeding (IMD)
To prevent breastfeeding the difficulties in the breast milk production, the first thing that Mommy can do is IMD (Early Initiation of Breastfeeding). This is performed shortly after the delivery, normally 30 minutes after birth, the baby will be placed on Mommy’s belly.
The baby will look for Mommy’s nipple that gives similar smell with amniotic fluid. Therefore, the baby's hands should not be wiped so the baby can find this similar smell.
In addition to the IMD, Mommy also needs to give extra treatment to the breasts, for smooth blood circulation, and cleanse the nipple so that the breast milk can come out smoothly. And most importantly, Mommy must consume healthy foods which are rich in nutrients that can increase the breast milk production.
Thus, breast milk is not only important for the baby, but also for the Mommy since it becomes one of the indicators that Mommy has a healthy body and ready to provide the best nutrition for the baby.
There are many Mommies using infant formula instead of breast milk when dealing with insufficient amount of breast milk supply. Actually, infant formula may be used to complement breast milk when the baby is older than 6 months.
As stated in a lot of breastfeeding tips, this is because the baby's digestive system has been formed and strong. In addition, breast milk also contains all the nutrients needed by the baby, such as carbohydrates, proteins, fats, carnitine, vitamin K, D, E, A and many other minerals.
So, when Mommy wants to use infant formula instead of breast milk, select the formula that has a lot of nutrition and vitamin contents. Don’t be interested in a formula brand just because it is expensive, and automatically reflects high quality.
To select an infant formula, firstly check the nutrition and vitamin contained therein, which are usually listed on the milk packaging. There is a formula completed with AA or DHA to improve the baby’s intelligence. Actually, this is not necessary, so these two things are not essential in selecting the best infant formula to replace the breast milk.
Thus, the infant formula is actually not recommended for newborns. However, if necessary, due to the aforementioned problems, the infant formula can be a substitute for breast milk and also additional nutrition provider for the baby.
